Familie er et abstrakt ord. Familie kommer nemlig i mange former. I gamle dage var en familie bestående af en mor, en far og nogle børn – men sådan er det ikke længere.
Nu til dags kan en familie godt være bestående af kun én mor og nogle børn eller udelukkende af nogle voksne. Som man kan se på billede 1. Kan en familie og bestå af to mænd eller to kvinder.
Som man ser på billede 3. Er familie også bedste forældre, kusiner, fætre osv.
Nogle har store familier og andre har små.
For mig er familie omsorg, tilhørsforhold, stabilitet, tryghed, ro og intimitet.
Derfor er familie heller ikke kun nogle mennesker du kender, fordi I er af samme kød og blod. Familie kan være fremmede mennesker, som er kommet til at betyde meget for dig.
Et eksempel til dette kunne være mine efterskoleveninder. Først var de helt fremmede mennesker. Men jeg har boet med dem et helt år. Jeg har set deres gode og dårlige sider. Og jeg har været der når det havde brug for det – og omvendt. Derfor anser jeg også dem som min familie. Jeg ved at selvom vi har har kontaktet hinanden i lang tid, er det altid det samme forhold vi har.
