VI ser ikke mennesket som godt eller ondt, men derimod som et menneske, der har retten og evnen til at vælge mellem det gode og det onde. Problemet med Alex er, at han ganske vist bliver helbredt og accepteret i samfundets øjne, men da han ikke selv har valgt det, har han stadig en dårlig side under facaden, og han venter bare på at han kan løsrive sig. Alex giver os derfor en godt eksempel på det evige problem, at man for at kunne vælge det gode, også må have mulighed for at vælge det onde.
