Selvom Tyrkiets vækst er steget er Tyrkiet stadig en underudviklet økonomi. Deres BNP pr indbygger er på 13.000 euro og der er mindre en halvdelen af EU gennemsnit. Tyrkiets rigdom er ulige fordelt hvilket betyder at en stor del er fattige som kan medføre til stor indvandring rundt i EU lande. På sigt vil væksten falde igen og arbejdsløsheden stige og det vil lokke en masse mod vest.
