Historie

Rødderne bag Adventure Race er dybe og der er uenighed om tilblivelsen af den moderne form for Adventure racing. Mange mener det er to dages løbet; Karrimor International Mountain Marathon, afholdt første gang i 1968, der er moderen til alle Adventure Races. I løbet skulle tomands hold krydse et bjergområde, bærende alle forsyninger selv, på en dobbelt marathon distance.

I 1980 blev Alpine Ironman afholdt i New Zealand. Individuelle deltagere løb, padlede og stod på ski mod et andetsteds beliggende mål. Senere samme år skabte samme arrangør, Robin Judkins et andet race; Coast To Coast. Et løb som medtog de fleste moderne Adventure Race discipliner; Trail running, cykling og padling. Uafhængigt af det, debuterede Alaska Mountain Wilderness Classic i 1982 med et løb som indebar seks dages ustøttet vildnis race. Dette løb eksisterer stadig.

I 1989 startede den moderne æra indenfor Adventure Race med Raid Gauloises i New Zealand. Dette var inspireret af Paris – Dakar rallyet og indeholdt alle moderne elementer fra Adventure Race. Inspireret af Raid Gauloises, blev racet Eco Challenge skabt. Dette race blev gjort kendt i meget bredere kredse via Discovery Channel. Det var også dette race der kom til at afføde navnet Adventure Race.

Herefter er det gået stærkt, og der er vokset mange forskellige Adventure Races frem. Siden 2001 har der endda været afholdt VM.

then it has expanded rapidly and has grown many different adventure races ahead. Since 2001, there has even been held vm.
