Poul la Cour ønskede, at elektriciteten skulle komme landbefolkningen til gode, så det hårde fysiske arbejde på gårdene ville blive lettere og mere effektivt og samtidig kunne elektriciteten anvendes til lys ved læsning, arbejde og undervisning om aftenen.
