Sådan hedder en mystisk novelle af Ernest Hemingway, hvor en mand og en kvinde sidder på en bar i Nordspanien og drikker. De venter på toget til Madrid, taler med hinanden, og ser på det solbeskinnede bjerg på den anden side af dalen, der efter kvindens mening ligner en hvid elefant. Historien fortælles fra en tredje persons synsvinkel. Fortælleren fortæller helt neutralt, hvad enhver, der befinder sig på stedet, vil kunne høre og se.
