Der var engang en by, der hed Hameln. Byens indbyggere syntes, at det var den smukkeste by i hele verden. Men en dag fik de et problem. Tusindvis af mus invaderede byen. De gik ind i alle byens huse og spiste indbyggernes mad. Alle bad borgmesteren om at finde (søge) en løsning. Han lovede mange penge til den, der kunne udrydde musene. En mand, der spillede smukt på fløjte, hørte om problemet. Han kom til Hameln og spillede så smukt at musene fulgte ham ud af byen og i floden.
