Oscar Pistorius blev født i Johannesburg i 1986. Som barn blev begge ben amputeret under knæene, men hans mor opmuntrede ham til at træne sin krop på trods af sit handicap. Det var dog først i 2004, han begyndte at løbe, og ved at kombinere ny teknologi og fysisk styrke lykkedes det Pistorius at deltage i de Oplympiske lege i 2012.
