Den tyrkiske økonomi er vokset de sidste par år. Væksten var omkring 3,5 procent i år 2014 og landet har klaret den økonomiske nedtur meget bedre end de fleste EU lande. Kapitalindkomsten en steget seks gange så meget som den var før. Befolkning i Tyrkiet er bedre stillet end alle de andre lande i mellemøstens befolkninger. Kun New York, London og Moskva har flere milliardærer end Istanbul. Hvis Tyrkiet blev medlem ville det bringe liv i EU økonomi samtidig med at der vil komme 70 millioner flere forbruger ind på EU marked.
