Bred opbakning til ideen om et kunstmuseum som er åbent for alleI Aarhus Stiftstidende fra 8.1.1839 kan vi læse, hvordan mange almindelige mennesker – som avisen dengang kalder ”de ringere folkeklasser” – bakker op om ideen om at alle danskere – ikke kun kongen og overklassen - skal have lov at se Thorvaldsens værker og samling.
