He was a stubborn child, proud and a little spiteful. He did not wish to become a model child. He was just being himself. The piano has a very important role in the story. It gets personified, but also it is called an evil thing, by the narrator. He thinks it's possessed. Mrs. Chin unfortunately dies during one of their piano lessons. The main character blames himself and his terrible musical skills. But after some time he turns his blame to the piano and calls it satanic. It has powers to make bad things happen. The piano gets thrown out by the family and the narrator imagines the piano screams as it burns. The narrator needed to find a way of explaining death and all the bad things. He was just a child, and children need an explanation for everything. The piano gets the role of the scapegoat. It is then easier two understand what has happened. As the ending of the story appears the main character stops blaming himself for the death of his teacher. He also starts two look for other explanations why he couldn't be successful with the piano. The last sentence in the story he says; six months later I was starting to take violin lessons, but that's a whole other story. That flat proofs the stubborn, proud and spiteful kid is still in him. He will not give up. He will be good to something.
