Avery familie, består af en mor, en far og hendes bror. Hendes mor er meget opmærksomheds krævende, og har sine egen problemer med hendes mand. Hendes mor vil gerne leve det liv hun nok aldrig selv fik igennem Avery. Så hun prøver at sætte en falsk familie op, hvor alting er godt.
Avery far, er en stille og rolig arbejds mand, og enlig bare gør hvad der bliver sagt og ellers ser tv. Han blev fyret for noget tid siden og har siden ikke lavet noget som helst udover at se tv. Han magter ikke rigtig at tage en diskuter op, så han lader bare problemerne forbi passere.
Hendes bror laver ikke en skid og er ligeglad med alt og alle. Han sidder dagen lang og spiller computer stil og gider ikke tage stilling til at være et voksenmenneske med ansvar for sit eget liv.
