Martin Luther King starter sin tale ud med at fortælle at han er glad for at være sammen med folket. Dernæst begynder han at argumentere og fortælle om hvordan det hele hænger sammen, han lægger stor vægt på frihed I hans tale, derudover taler han meget om de sortes frihed. Til sidst I talen taler han om hans egne drømme hvorefter han nævner de stater hvor negerne har samme frihed som de hvide, men også de stater hvor de sorte ikke har samme frihed som de hvide. I talen spiller han på publikummets følelser og derfor får han også deres opmærksomhed når han gør dette.
