I forhold til i dag havde de unge meget få midler til rådighed, for i dag har de unge en meget stor købekraft, især fordi de ligesom i 1957 enten ikke har nogen faste udgifter, eller har meget få. Dette gør at deres pengestrøm giver adgang til et højt forbrug, men i modsætning til dengang er det i dag kun 2/3 der skal arbejde for deres lommepenge . Dette gør også at de unge i en højere grad er en målgruppe end tidligere, og at der er opstået et marked som der ikke var tidligere . Grunden til at der på den måde bliver øslet, penge væk på børn og unge, kan skyldes de sidste mange års højkonjunktur, og kvinders store indtog på arbejdsmarkedet, har givet flere penge til de unge.
